In 1984, Preston Willingham left with his father Jim on a long car ride for a week of golf. Jim finds himself lying in the back of the car, unable to bear the sitting position any longer. Preston decides to find a solution to relieve his father's back pain.

Thanks to his grandfather surgeon, Preston receives the contribution of orthopaedists, neurosurgeons, and physiotherapists to model his first seat thanks to his know-how as a sculptor. Seeing the spectacular results on his father, from close to close, soon 5 000 seats are manufactured in an artisanal way.

Preston is now convinced of its foundation's ability to change people's lives, but lacks the capital and expertise to spread its foundation more widely.
It was only 20 years later, in 2005, that a Californian entrepreneur, soon joined by former Crocs managers, created BackJoy USA. 80% of Americans suffer from seated back pain; the first consequence of a bad seated position. This represents the 2nd cause of visit to the doctor.
