In 1981, together with Irmgard, Rudi Bort and three part-time employees in rented premises in Schorndorf, Germany, BORT was founded. Today, BORT GmbH develops, manufactures and sells high-quality medical products, in particular orthopaedic supports and appliances, most of which are prescribed by doctors and reimbursed to patients by health insurance funds.

The company's headquarters in Weinstadt currently employs around 95 people, including a sales team of 26. Another 250 employees, based at two other sites in Germany, manufacture about 93% of the total 500 medical products developed and sold by BORT.
BORT products are subject to rigorous quality controls. Since 2001, BORT quality management has been certified according to EN ISO 9001 and the quality assurance standard for medical products EN ISO 13485.

This ensures that all products are evaluated in accordance with the Medical Devices Act and bear the CE mark.
